Understanding Diabetic
Eye Diseases

Diabetic eye diseases can affect your vision without obvious symptoms. Early detection through regular eye exams is key to managing these conditions. We can help prevent further complications and preserve your vision with the right treatment. We’re here to guide you through it.

Diabetic retinopathy occurs when high blood sugar damages blood vessels in the retina. It can cause blurry vision, dark spots, or flashes of light. Regular eye exams help catch it early, and with treatment, vision can be preserved. Early intervention is key to preventing further damage.

Cataracts cloud the eye’s lens, leading to blurry or hazy vision. Those with diabetes are at higher risk of early-onset cataracts. Symptoms may include difficulty seeing at night or halos around lights. Cataracts are usually treatable with surgery, and most people can regain clear vision afterward.

Glaucoma is a group of diseases that affect the optic nerve, mostly from excess pressure. It can cause gradual loss of peripheral vision, and symptoms can go unnoticed until damage is significant. Early detection and treatment with eye drops or surgery can help manage the condition and prevent further loss of vision.

Diabetic macular edema occurs when blood vessels in the retina leak fluid, causing swelling in the macula, the part of the eye responsible for central vision. It can lead to blurred or distorted vision. Timely treatment can help control swelling and prevent permanent vision loss.

Our Diagnostic
Technology

Proper diagnosis is the foundation of maintaining optimal eye health and preventing potential complications that could impact your vision. Through comprehensive eye exams and innovative diagnostic tools, we can identify early signs of eye conditions before they progress.

Early detection is essential for addressing issues proactively, allowing us to create personalized treatment plans tailored to your unique needs, lifestyle, and overall health.

Your long-term eye health and clarity of vision are always our top priorities.

The OCT MAESTRO-I imaging tool provides detailed cross-sectional images of your retina, helping detect conditions like diabetic macular edema early. It’s non-invasive and helps your doctor monitor changes over time, guiding treatment decisions.

The DAYTONA is an imaging machine that offers a broad view of the retina, capturing more detail than traditional imaging on its own. It can help identify issues like diabetic retinopathy or retinal tears, allowing for early detection and timely intervention.

The ZEISS Humphrey tests your peripheral vision, helping identify blind spots or vision changes that could signal glaucoma or other eye conditions. It’s a quick, simple test that plays a vital role in early diagnosis.

Goldmann tonometry is not the Eye Puff test. The Eye Puff test is NCT for non-contact tonometry. At OSO, we often do both. I will therefore recommend to change the title to: Goldmann Tonometry & Eye Puff Test. The text can be: The Goldmann tonometry is the gold standard test to measure your eye pressure to help check for glaucoma. It complements the puff of air, which is a good screening test to measure the pressure. Both tests help to reveal any risk of glaucoma early on so treatment can begin before permanent damage occurs.
